Toby Meets Tom and Tilly – Socialising Your Puppy

This weekend was very social one for Toby, he met up with his his canine friends old and new, and this made me think about the importance of socialising your puppy. It is very important to socialise your puppy, although you should only do so with other dogs which you know are in good health, have up to date vaccinations, and the meeting should be at your home or a place where strange dogs haven’t been, because your puppy will be very vulnerable to diseases until itsfinal set of jabs. Friends and family will want to see your new …

From Kitten to Cat.

What a difference a year makes! It doesn’t seem possible that the wonderful young cat who now shares our life here at Fantasy Farm was once a tiny scared kitten, his transformation has been a joy to see. When we came back off of a short break and decided to sit outside on the patio that September evening last year, we were really surprised to see a tiny black and white kitten crawl out from a crack under a window further down the building, and peer hesitatingly at us.   From the other cats distainful behaviour it was obvious that …

The trouble with Duckweed…

Hi everyone, So what is the trouble with duckweed? The trouble is that it looks like grass!!!! Those of you who have read Toby’s Tails – Still Wagging, will remember that when I was only 6 months old I ran straight into a pond covered with Duckweed because I thought it was grass, and last Sunday, 8 years later, I did the same thing again. There I am, happily bumbling down the tow path enjoying the sunshine at La Suze Sur Sarthe. Then would you believe it, seconds after this photo was taken I turned around and trotted back a …

Christmas Tree Fun with Domino

When animals discover new things it is always such fun, and Domino has been having great fun with our Christmas tree! Two Christmas’ ago Cleo, Ramesses and Neffi were kittens and we watched them climb in the big Christmas tree, they thought it was great fun and mum and dad didn’t mind. Their early months and antics can be read about in Toby’s Tails – The Christmas Kittens https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tobys-Tails-Christmas-Kittens-Fantasy-ebook/dp/B016153T0A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481972221&sr=8-1&keywords=toby%27s+tails+-+the+christmas+kittens      This is Domino the abandoned kittens first Christmas, and he is having such fun! Whilst I lie quietly at her feet, mum wraps the presents, and he is busy jumping …

A new supervisor has arrived.

Our kitten is growing quickly and now he is competing with me supervising, well in the office at least. Mum spends most days writing, or reviewing books, and my place is at her feet, which is fine as every so often I pop up onto her leg and have a little cuddle. However, Domino has now discovered how to climb up onto the table and lays on Mum’s desk, watching her work, or trying to catch the tails of the older cats as they go past, totally unaware he is up there. When its time to feed the outside animals however …

Halloween

As you know, Fantasy Farm is all about the animals who live here. We do however notice what the humans do, and the strange things they celebrate… Domino has just discovered an enormous orange pumpkin on the vegetable patch and is sniffing it. “What is it?” He asks me. “It’s a pumpkin,” I explain. “What do you do with it?” he asks. “Well Mum cuts it open, takes out the seeds (and feeds them to the chickens) then cuts off the skin and make soups and other things with the insides. It is very popular this time of the …

Getting to know you – Toby

Well every day Domino the kitten is getting a little braver. Yesterday evening he actually came in to the living room and sat next to me whilst we were watching television. Today it is raining, and since cats don’t like getting their paws wet, he is indoors. He is still very wary or Mum and Dad, but he seems to be taking a liking to me.     Of course, as Domino just arrived here, we don’t know what his Mum and Dad looked like. He has tried desperately to make friends with Casper, perhaps because he is black, …

A Kitten Called?

Well it looks as if the kitten has come to stay, he is coming out to say hello more and more, and he comes up to me to have a rub and make friends, if no-one is watching. “What shall we call him,” Mum says. We all watch the little black and white kitten as it scampers around in the sunshine. I am still wondering what name would suit him when Mum says “What about Domino.” Immediately it seems just the perfect name for him, and Mum calls “Domino.” We watch as he turns his head towards us. Best get …
