The ponies need water wings.

After a long hot summer and mild autumn, a wet and windy winter has arrived. It is okay for me, sitting indoors.playing with Domino and having to dry the older kittens off with my tongue when they come in, but the ponies are not happy. The paddock is getting very wet. Both Marine and Prudence enjoy watching us indoors, and have a special place where they can look in opposite the patio doors. They whinny to mum that they are wet, and I even heard Prudence ask Marine if mum had any water wings, but it is just the …

Stormy weather and the wind worried ponies!

Well as you know, being a Border Collie, a bit of wet weather doesn’t worry me, but the wind and rain have been pouring down the last couple of days. Here at Fantasy Farm the chickens have kept in their hen house, they don’t like the wind at all. In the field the ponies Marine and Prudence are staying in their shelter most of the time eating the big round of hay inside. However, just now I heard a lot of noise and there was Marine running down the field as fast as her legs would carry her. Mum laughed …

A Common Midwife Toad in the Shower.

The other night Mum and Dad heard a strange beeping sound in the yard, it sounded like something electrical was sending out an alarm, but it wasn’t… So what could it be? Well, Mum went out to investigate and under a tarpaulin she discovered the answer – it was a Common Midwife Toad! We love animals as you know here, therefore Mum wasn’t overly surprised when she went into the outside shower the other day and there it was, sitting on the shower mat! Why was she not surprised – well it was very hot weather, and it was cool and damp in …

Toby Says – Keep Cool!

Now by keeping cool, I don’t mean dressing your dog or cat in sunglasses or putting a straw hat on them – just for the record, my ears would get in the way! I mean remember to keep your furry friends in the shade and never take them out in cars if you are going to have to leave the car, even if it’s just for a few minutes. With our furry coats we get very hot, very quickly and the heat can very quickly kill us! Keep the windows down a bit but not fully where we sit, if you don’t …

Picnic by the river

Yesterday was a lovely day so mum and dad packed a picnic and we all went down to the Loire valley. Mum and dad had a lovely picnic at Saumur,  you can park right on top of the hill next to the chateau http://www.saumur-tourisme.net/chateausaumur_uk.html There are picnic tables there, it’s a lovely spot and you can see the  river Loire wending its way down the valley in both directions.  I was too busy though exploring, to look at the river. There were plenty of people to say hello to and of course every so often I had to pop back …

Chicks and Comfrey

When Michelle stayed, we all went to see my breeders Karen and John at https://www.facebook.com/Le-Chataignier-Chestnutreefarm/186746034697317 . I had a lovely reunion with my doggy family and even got to meet my brother Dougal. I hadn’t seen him since we were puppies because he went to live in England, but now he’s back in France, with his owner Adam. The night before, I ‘helped’ mum dig up some of the tall plants with hairy leaves which grow everywhere in the water meadows. Mum says they are called Comfrey and that they are a very useful herb, apparently John wants some of …

The end of summer.

Some days you know, now it’s getting cooler, sunbathing is impossible and I have to resort to watching the world from the doorstep, autumn is coming mum says. Also, I have to admit, I don’t really like getting wet, well unless I’m on a walk that is. But an advantage is that now it’s cooler I get to go for longer walk, something about it being too hot some days, I don’t know, mum might complain but she doesn’t have my thick coat on. Before everyone thinks mum is a bad owner, I have to say that normally no walk …

Harriet the Baby Hedgehog

Hi everyone. I just had to tell you about my walk today. At the top of the road mum was walking  along a grassy track which borders the wood in the lovely sunshine, I on the otherhand had bounded ahead – you humans walk so slow but at least it gives me plenty of extra sniffing time! I regularly look or run back to check on mum during our walks, otherwise she might get lost, you know! Before I turned the corner into the wood I checked on mum, she was crouched down, camera in hand. Well, I just HAD to go back and …
